There is much that you can do using a few PVC pipes and if you are looking for new ideas to enhance your fishing experience, this following informative article will give you four PVC fishing projects that you can tackle yourself. The projects in question are very cheap and simple so you can put your water pants for fishing or your waders for women on and start using them today.
PVC marker buoy
Marker buoys can be used for marking structures when you are drift fishing and may even be used to mark an area you have dropped something overboard. It is possible to make your very own marker buoys using our simple PVC project below.
In order to build this item, you will need 4 ounces of fishing weights, nylon cord, a knife to cut the noodle, a PVC cutter, tape measure, PVC glue and primer, ½” PVC caps, ½” PVC pipe and foam pool noodle.
You should start by cutting four pieces of noodle each 2-12/2” long, enough to make two marker buoys. Measure the PVC pipe to be 9-/1/2” long and cut it using the PVC cutter. Now that you have the pieces all ready to go, it is time to assemble them.
Start by sliding one of the noodle pieces of each end of the pipe and leave around ¾” of the pipe exposed on each end. Now apply the primer to the cap and pipe, and then apply the glue to each piece. Place the caps on the ends of the pipe and push down firmly on them.
Now that you have the market buoy almost ready, you should strip off around 50 to 74 feet of nylon cord from the spool and wind it onto the pipe between the two noodles. Once you’ve reached the end of the line, tie a 4-ounce lead sinker to it. To prevent the line from unrolling, you can stick a small nail through the hole in the weight and into the foam.
To mark your structure, simply remove the nail and throw the marker overboard and watch how the weight will sink to the bottom and hold the buoy in place.
Homemade fishing rod
To make a PVC fishing rod you will need to start by cutting 2 pieces of piping, one ½ inch in diameter and the other ¾ inch. Use the PVC cutter to cut the pipe to your desired length while keeping in mind that the combined length of the two pipes will be the length of your finished fishing rod.
A child-sized fishing rod, for example, can have each pipe at a length of 10 inches. Remember to use sandpaper to smooth the cut edges so as to remove any markings or imperfections. Next, you will need two slip caps, one ½ inch and one ¾ inch, both of which are available at any hardware store. Fit onto the corresponding piece of pipe but remember not to glue in place.
Take a power drill with a 3/32 inch drill bit and drill three to five holes all the way through the ½ inch pipe. You can now take a number of medium-sized binder clips that match the number of holes you drilled and remove the silver wire from the clip.
Use some pliers to bend one leg of the silver wire across the other, until there is a closed loop on one end of the wire. On the other end, the legs should point inward toward each other. Repeat the process with the other wires.
Next, take another wire and clip the legs into the holes on either side of the ½ inch pipe. The loop at the end of the wire will form an eyelet for the fishing line. You should repeat the process with the other wires as well.
You can now attach a premade fishing reel to the larger pipe by using a drill bit. Finally, screw the two PVC pipes together and run the fishing line through the eyelets. To add the finishing touches, attach the hook, sinker, and bobber to the end of the line.
PVC crappie trees
To build a crappie tree you will need a 4-foot PVC pipe, 20 lengths of PVC each one around 30 inches long, a small bucket, concrete, a portable heater, a cutter, and glue. You should start by holding the 4-foot pole steady in the small bucket and pouring in the concrete. Keep the pipe steady until the concrete has set.
Once the concrete is solid, you can start to make small cuts on the PVC pipe. You should make the holes on both sides of the pipe. Use the heater to soften the cuts you have made and once the area is soft begin to stick one of the 30-inch pipes into the hole quickly. Once that is done, add some cold water to harden the PVC.
Repeat this process for all the cuts you have made. Once you have attached all the 20 smaller pipes in the 4-foot-tall pipe, you can apply some glue to the joint to confer it more durability. Leave the crappie tree to dry for a few hours and then you will be able to use it.
PVC folding fishing chair
Before you start this project you should organize the materials that you will need, and remember that the size of the pipe and fittings should be thicker if you want a sturdier product. The standard size for PVC chairs should be at the very least 1-1/4 inches in diameter to allow for the weight of a typical adult.
You can start by choosing your desired fabric and cutting it 7 by 18 inches. Now fold and sew 2.5-inch casings on each side of the fabric (the casings can be larger or smaller, depending on what PVC pipe you are using.) Next, prepare four 13” PVC pipes and drill them in the center. You will also need two 10” and 7” pipes.
Thread the fabric seat through one 7 inch piece and one 10 inch piece. The four 13-inch pipes you prepared earlier will be attached to the 7 and 10-inch pieces using four elbows.
Use the remaining 10” and 7” pieces to complete the two rectangles which will become the chair’s legs. You can now cross the two rectangles and align them on each drilled hole. Connect the holes using nuts and bolts.
With that done, you will now be able to fold and store your chair and have it ready to use for your next fishing adventure.
